# Forms

> A page anyone with the link can fill in, no account needed. Each answer becomes a card on a board you choose, and the questions are the board's own fields. Sharing, closing, the requester's status link and what each plan includes.

A form is a public page made from a board. Anyone with the link answers its
questions, and each answer becomes a card in a column you choose. The
questions are the board's own fields (title, description, priority, due date
and the board's custom fields), so an answer needs nothing new to read or
report on: it is a card like any other.

People who answer never need an account, and they never see the board, the
other answers or who is on it.

## Making a form

There are three ways in:

- **The board's menu**: **Board menu → Create a form**.
- **The command palette**: type "New form" and pick the board that takes the
answers, or start a new board that comes with a form.
- **A template that comes with a form** when you make a board: Sign-up sheet,
Client briefs, Book the van and Requests each make the board and its form
  together.

A new form files into a **Requests** column at the left of the board, which it
adds when the board has none. Any column works; change it in Settings.

## Questions

The builder has the questions on the left and the live page on the right,
exactly as a visitor sees it, on a desktop or a phone.

- Each question fills one of the board's fields. The card title is always
asked and always first, because it becomes the card's name.
- Mark a question **Required** or leave it optional. Drag the grip to reorder.
- **Add a question** offers the board's fields that are not asked yet, or a
new field, which then joins every card on the board.
- A person field never goes on a public form, because its picker would list
  your team to a stranger.

Short answers take up to 200 characters and long ones up to 2,000. An answer
over its limit is refused, not cut, so nobody's brief arrives half missing.

## Who is asking

Under **Settings → Who is asking**, choose **Name and email**, **Email only**
or **Nobody**. Name and email ride on the card's form mark ("Form · Jordan
Lee · 7:58 am") and in the notification, never as board fields. **Nobody**
makes the form anonymous.

The Margin never sends email to the address someone types into a form, so a
form cannot be used to send mail to strangers. The person answering sees
their answers on the thank-you page instead, with a private link to follow
their request.

## Settings

- **Column**, **Assign to** and **Labels**: where each new card lands, who
gets it (leave it empty and new cards wait unassigned) and the labels it
  starts with.
- **Thank-you message**: what the page says after someone sends.
- **Open**: turn it off to pause the form. The link keeps working and shows
your closed message, and the date it opens again if you set one.
- **Stop after**: the form fills up after this many answers.

While the form is closed or full, the preview beside Settings shows the page a
person with the link sees now, instead of the thank-you.

## Sharing

**Share** gives you the link, a QR code for a poster or a flyer, and a snippet
to put the form on your own website (the page drops its own header inside a
frame). It also shows how many times the page was opened.

**Stop the link** ends that address for good: anyone holding it sees that it
is gone. To pause instead, close the form in Settings. Making a new link later
gives a new address.

## The requester's status link

The thank-you page links to a private status page that says where the request
stands: **Received**, then **"Kofi Mensah is on it"** once someone has it,
then **Done**. It shows nothing else from the board. Whoever assigns the card
chooses whether the page names them: the picker's **Tell Jordan who has it**
box is on by default, and unticked the page says **"Someone is on it"**. A
request sent without a name or email always says "Someone is on it".

## Answers

Every answer is a card on the board, marked **Form** with who sent it and
when, and the column it lands in carries a **Form** pill. The builder's
**Answers** tab lists them newest first with a link to each card. Whoever
made the board hears about each new answer, unless the form has a default
assignee (who hears "Assigned to you") or a triage rota (below).

## Requests for a team

The **Requests** template makes a board with **Triage**, **Accepted**, **In
progress** and **Done**, and a form that files into Triage. On Team, a
**triage rota** under **Settings → Rules** names this week's
triage owner, who gets "New request from Jordan" with **Assign** and **Take
it**, and their My work has a **Requests to triage** tab with every request
still in Triage that nobody owns, each with the same two buttons. Take it
makes the card yours and moves it to Accepted, which puts it on your My work
and your Workload row. A request left without an owner for a day shows in
This week's Risks. Board rules run on form cards the moment they land. See [Team hub](https://themarginapp.com/docs/team-hub#requests).

## Deleting a form

**Delete form** sits at the bottom of Settings and asks once before it acts.
The link stops working and the form's answers are deleted with it. The cards
it already filed stay on the board, and the form no longer counts toward your
plan's forms. To keep the answers, pause the form or stop its link instead.

## Plans

| Plan | Forms per workspace | Answers a month, per workspace |
| ----------- | ------------------- | ------------------------------ |
| Free | 1 | 100 |
| Pro, Family | 5 | 500 |
| Team | 25 | 2,500 |

The triage rota and rules that act on cards a form files come with Team. The
public page never mentions a plan: when a workspace has taken its answers for
the month, the page says it is full and opens again on the 1st. You see the
reason in the app, on the board's Forms page. See
[Plans and limits](https://themarginapp.com/docs/plans-and-limits).

## Abuse guards

Each form and each address can only send so many answers a minute, a hidden
field catches most bots (they get a polite reply and file nothing), and every
page has **Report this form**.

## In the sandbox

The [sandbox](https://themarginapp.com/try) comes with two forms already taking answers: Request design
work on the studio's Requests board and Book the van on the family's Family
car board. You can read their questions, settings and answers. Making a form,
editing one and its link wait for your own workspace, because a sandbox has no
address on the open web.

## On the phone

The board menu has **Create a form** and **Forms**: make a form, open or
close it, and copy, share or stop its link. **Edit questions** opens the
same builder as the web: questions with their order and the Required switch,
the settings with **Delete form** at the end, and the Answers tab. Someone who can only view the board reads
the questions and answers and changes nothing. Cards a form filed carry the
same Form mark, a new request in For me has **Take it**, My work lists
**Requests to triage** for this week's triage owner, and assigning a request
has the "Tell Jordan who has it" box.

A board a form feeds says so under its name, as "Fed by the form Request
design work · 37 answers this month", in place of its people and card counts.

## Ask the assistant

Margin Intelligence and connected agents can list a workspace's forms, make
one on a board, read a form's answers, and change a form's questions and
settings. They can also take a request for you, choose whether the requester's
status link names who has it, and list the requests waiting for you when you
are this week's triage owner, and delete a form after asking you. The tools are
`list_forms`, `create_form`, `list_form_answers`, `update_form`, `take_request`,
`tell_requester`, `list_my_triage` and `delete_form`, on both MCP servers.
