# Wall widgets

> Every widget the wall display can show, what it reads, and what a tap on it opens: the clock and weather, the day's timeline and this week, meals and the list, chores, points and rewards, timers, notes, sticky notes, checklists, boards, drawings, Ask Margin and web pages.

A page on the [wall display](https://themarginapp.com/docs/the-wall-display) is made of widgets. A
grown-up adds, moves and resizes them in **Edit wall**. Each widget shows the
glance on the page; a tap opens the whole thing, one level down, where the
household can act as themselves.

Widgets never scroll. If a widget is small, it shows less, and the whole of it
is one tap away.

In its settings: fit the day, waking hours, the whole day, or your own hours | The calendar |
| What's next | The thing that matters at this hour (the school run, the next event, dinner, tomorrow) on a tinted plate | That event, or the jobs |

| The cover | The household's cover: the time, the date, tonight's dinner and the next thing on | |
| A drawing | A quiet drawing for a corner: the season's botanical, or one you pick | |

| The list, as a column | The same list, set like a classifieds column | The list |

The timer belongs to the screen it is on: it keeps running through a reload,
and it does not appear on other screens.

| ------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| Note | One household note you pick, its title and first lines. Notes in the Vault are never shown | |
| Sticky notes | The household's sticky notes, on paper, with a **+ note** card on the board itself: write, pick a paper, say who it is from. No PIN; taking down someone else's note asks a grown-up's wall PIN. Each one is a note tagged **wall** | Write a note |
| Checklist | A checklist you pick, ticked right on the wall | |

| Drawing board | The newest drawing in the Wall folder, or one you pick. A tap opens it full screen to draw with a finger or a stylus; **+ New drawing** starts another. Each one is a whiteboard | The drawing, full screen |

## On the screen

See [Web pages on the wall](https://themarginapp.com/docs/the-wall-display#web-pages-on-the-wall) for

## Through Margin Intelligence and other assistants

Assistants can read and change everything the widgets show (chores, lists,
meals, events, notes, checklists, boards, rewards) with the same tools as
always. They can also list, save, rename, star and delete the household's
wall templates and set the order of the household's people.

## Assistants and the wall

Each wall screen keeps its own layout, and an assistant working for a grown-up
can arrange it too. Ask Margin Intelligence, or Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor once
they are connected, things like "add a Tonight page to the kitchen wall with
the meals and a timer" or "put the Almanac on the hallway screen".

An assistant can:

- list the household's wall screens and read the pages and widgets on one
- add a page, then add, move, resize or remove widgets on it
- put a saved template or a built-in layout (the Almanac, the Morning Edition
or the Household Spread) on a screen. It is a copy, so changing the screen
  later leaves the template alone
- put a drawing on a page: a drawing is a whiteboard, so the assistant can
start one in the Wall folder and show it there
- write a sticky note. A sticky is a note tagged **wall**, so it also shows in
Notes and in search, and anyone in the household can ask for one

The screen picks up an assistant's change the next time it checks, within a
minute, and nobody needs to touch it. Arranging a screen is for grown-ups, the
same as Edit wall. Changes that replace a whole layout or take a widget off
ask you to confirm first.
