A board is a project, a routine, or an area of life. It holds columns, and columns hold cards.
Two views of the same board
Kanban is the default: columns side by side, drag between them. Press
V then L for list view, which is the same cards as rows
you can scan and sort. Neither is a different board; they are two readings of
one.
Columns can carry a WIP limit. Exceed it and the column tells you. It does not stop you, because a limit that blocks work gets deleted within a week.
What a card holds
A title, description, due date, priority, labels, an assignee, checklists, comments, attachments, and a recurrence rule.
Recurring cards regenerate on completion rather than on a schedule, so a weekly task you finish on Thursday next appears a week from Thursday. This is deliberate. Schedule-based recurrence produces the pile of overdue duplicates that makes people abandon the app.

With a board focused:

Hold ⌘ and click to build a selection, then act on all of it at once:
move, label, complete, delete. Esc clears the selection.
Every one of those is undoable with ⌘ Z, including the
batch operations. Redo is ⌘ ⇧ Z.
Templates
Any board can be saved as a template, and a template can be applied to a new board. Useful for the shapes you rebuild constantly: a trip, a client project, a monthly close.
Sharing and locking
Boards are shared per board, with owner, editor and viewer roles, rather than per workspace. A board shared with you appears in your sidebar even though it lives in someone else's workspace. See Sharing and permissions.
A board can also carry a PIN lock, which hides its contents behind a code on the device. It is a shoulder-surfing defence rather than encryption: useful for a shared laptop, not a substitute for not putting secrets on a board.
Limits
The free tier allows 5 boards. Paid tiers do not cap them. Archiving a board does not free a slot, because an archived board is still a board. Delete it if you need the room.
